For the past few years, the ASICS blog has been home to five expert bloggers, each leading a weekly forum on topics ranging from running gear to mom-to-mom running advice. Now, to better converge the blog’s diverse range of readers and topics into one all-inclusive conversation, we’re reshaping this space around a new blogger who can serve as ASICS’ central social voice, New York City-based running coach and writer Christine Luff. With her breadth of health and fitness knowledge, Christine will continue the blog’s tradition of providing motivation and training tips to keep your running on track, while also giving you an inside look at latest happenings here at ASICS. Please join us in welcoming Christine. Here’s her story:
When I joined the cross-country team in seventh grade, my motivation was to get in shape for the upcoming basketball season. Like many new runners, I never imagined that it would become a lifelong passion. But I quickly discovered many aspects of the sport—the competition, the stress relief, the beauty of training outdoors, the thrill of crossing the finish line—that got me hooked.
Twenty-five years and countless races later, I love running for some of the same reasons I did back then, and many more. I run to maintain my health, stay focused, be a good role model for my kids and enjoy dessert guilt-free. I even met my husband while we were training for the same marathon, so you might say I have running to thank for my family.
As a fitness writer, personal trainer and a running coach in New York City for the past eight years, I've mentored runners of all abilities, ages, shapes and sizes, and watched them become addicted to running for many of the same reasons that drew me in. I love that running is such an accessible sport and not too difficult for total newbies. Once you get your feet wet, there's always something new to learn, another challenge, and more ways to keep pushing your running to the next level.
I've always found that running is more fun, rewarding and inspiring when you're part of a running community. I hope this blog will be a place where you can come to learn, get inspired, and share your own running accomplishments and adventures.
